Five Most Walkable Neighborhoods in Cincinnati, OH

Cincinnati is a great place to live, and as one of Fortune’s 25 best cities to find a job you’ll love, it’s easy to find that perfect work-life balance. Of course, not all neighborhoods are created equally, and the livability of your neighborhood can have a major effect on your happiness. If you’re looking for a neighborhood in Cincinnati where you can enjoy the city without having to struggle through traffic, here are some great options as recommended by cheap movers in Cincinnati.

Clifton

The proximity of the University of Cincinnati has created a neighborhood that’s eminently walkable and filled with some of the hippest bars and shops around town. Add in the fact that it’s just a short minute walk to downtown, and you have a neighborhood that provides you with access to practically everything you want without even having to invest in a car. Despite the low average age of Clifton residents, it’s a stately neighborhood, with houses and storefronts that have a quaintly antique look to them and offer a lovely ambiance to the whole area.

Over-The-Rhine

Renovations over the past few years have turned Over-The-Rhine into one of the hottest neighborhoods in Cincinnati. The population is diverse, ranging from young professionals to staid families, but the appeal is obvious. OTR is a hub for both shopping and dining, offering both a wide array of cute boutiques and a vibrant selection of up-and-coming restaurants. The Findlay Market offers dozens of shops and restaurants as well as street vendors, while MiCA 12/v is one of the best places in town to peruse local art. It’s also one of the oldest existing neighborhoods in Cincinnati, rich with architecture dating back to the late 19th century.

Central Downtown

Once one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the United States, the Central Downtown District has taken a 180-degree turn, transforming into a lively hub of activity that also offers prominent access to places of business. Residents can cut down on their commute, but there are also plenty of opportunities to kick back and relax in this neighborhood. Fountain Square hosts events big and small throughout the year, but the towering, modernist buildings that typify this business district are interspersed with any number of cutting-edge venues, restaurants, and storefronts as well.

West End

Despite encompassing less than a square mile in space, the West End manages to pack in a lot of activities and amenities, all within an area that can be covered on foot. The 19th-century Italianate architecture has been restored to pristine condition. While the neighborhood itself is largely residential, it’s located close enough to walk to many of the more lively neighborhoods in town, and the northern community of Brighton has become a meeting place for artists and creatives of all stripes.

Mount Auburn

Mount Auburn is the oldest neighborhood in Cincinnati, and its high elevation provides it with some of the most stunning views of the city around. It’s also a great place to soak up the local culture, as it houses the lovely Cincinnati Art Museum. If you’re looking to soak up some natural splendor, Mount Auburn overlooks the Ohio River and is home to the gorgeous outdoor refuge of Eden Park.
